Syd Airport launches site for plane lovers

Australia's busiest airport has flung open the doors to a new virtual home for plane spotters.

Sydney Airport on Wednesday launched the online community on its website, allowing aviation enthusiasts to share photos of aircraft and the best vantage points for spotting.

They will also have access to information about different plane models, aircraft registrations, security and restricted areas, runways, flight schedules and links to radio frequencies.

The website was set up following an overwhelming turnout for the test flight landing of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner in November.

"It's great to see so many people passionate about aviation," chief executive Kerrie Mather said.

"With Sydney Airport being one of the world's most popular airports for new generation, quieter and greener aircraft like the B787 and A380, there is plenty to see for our dedicated aviation community."
