Clive plans Qld motor museum

Having just splurged more than $2.5 million on 17 vintage cars, mining magnate Clive Palmer has decided to create a motoring museum at his resort on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Palmer, one of Australia's largest private car enthusiasts, now has more than 80 vintage vehicles in his private collection.

He sent a team to a one-day vintage car auction at an auto museum in Denmark where he bought a 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Tourer which he considered to be one of the most exciting cars of the auction.

Queensland's richest man also picked up a 1931 Bugatti Type 40A Tourer, one of just 32 examples built.

"I now own some of the rarest and most sought after vintage cars in the world, including a large Rolls-Royce collection and several cars dating back to 1900," he said in a statement.

"The 17 vehicles will go on show with another 30 that are already at the resort, of which all are in working order and mint condition."

Palmer said the museum will consist of up to 50 vehicles at any time.

"These vintage cars, many of which are extremely rare and have been sourced from around the world, will attract motoring and vintage car enthusiasts from around the country and possibly even the world," he said.
