JETSTAR is cracking down on carry-on baggage, cutting the weight allowance from 10 kilograms to 7 kilograms.
The limit applies to all domestic and international flights booked from today, however the ruling will not be implemented until November 25. Passengers who booked flights prior to October 28 will still be allowed to bring up to 10 kilograms on-board.
The moves comes after Jetstar installed dedicated cabin baggage officers at Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Gold Coast airports last month to patrol passengers carry-on luggage limits after receiving frequent complaints from passengers fed-up with a lack of overhead locker space because others have broken the rules.
Passengers who fail to meet the required weight will be charged an extra $50 at the airport and required to check their bags in at the gate.Business class passengers are also affected. They will still be allowed two carry-on bags however each one is to weigh no more than 7 kilograms, down from the previous weight limit of 10 kilograms each.

The reduced weight limit is not new to the industry with Qantas and Virgin already having a 7 kilogram weight limit in place for carry on luggage.
