It's not quite up there with Big Ben, the Abbey Road pedestrian crossing the Beatles made famous or Karl Marx's tomb in Highgate Cemetery.
But visitors to London were assured on Tuesday that the famous revolving sign outside New Scotland Yard will not disappear now that the Metropolitan Police are relocating their headquarters.
The sign has featured in police television dramas and served as a backdrop for countless reports on crime.
London Mayor Boris Johnson said the triangular sign would go up outside the Met's new headquarters and that the new building would continue to be called New Scotland Yard.
The site has been sold to an Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund. Next year ,the Metropolitan Police will vacate the building they have occupied since 1967.
