New Guide Helps Oktoberfest Crawl

A new book that belongs in every Oktoberfest reveller's backpack has just been issued in Germany: it lists more than 600 breweries in Munich and the surrounding areas.

Almost all these breweries serve beer and sausages to paying guests, so the guide can be used for the mother of all pub crawls.

By common consent, Bavaria has the world's highest density of breweries, many of them just pubs with a vat in the corner of a room.

Authors Bastian Boettner and Markus Raupach describe their Bavarian Beer Guide as a beer bible. It is written in English and German.

The two worked for years to gather information on some of the more obscure breweries in the southern German state and tracked down every single business that offers beer brewed on its premises.

Oktoberfest serves only a handful of big Munich beer brands. To taste the state's craft beers, aficionados need to head into the countryside and try the rare brews where they are made.
