First and business-class passengers on Qantas A380 flights between Australia and the US will be able to check their emails and internet in the sky from Wednesday.
Six superjumbos, which fly between Melbourne and Sydney and Los Angeles, have been equipped with internet technology, Qantas said.
During the eight-week trial passengers will be able to access the internet for a fee via their Wi-Fi enabled laptops and personal electronic devices, such as iPhones, iPads and BlackBerrys.
"Qantas is the first airline in the world to trial this service on direct flights between Australia and the US," a Qantas spokeswoman said.
The trial will initially be available to customers travelling in first and business cabins.
Following the trial, the airline will assess opportunities for the long-term application of internet capabilities across its A380 fleet.
