Ucango Travel & Cruise is celebrating being part of Australia’s best travel agency group following the 2015 National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) in Sydney last weekend.
Ucango Travel is a member of the Travellers Choice network which took out Australia’s Best Travel Agency Group award ahead of its more high-profile rivals of Flight Centre and Helloworld.
Travellers Choice was established in Perth in the mid 1970s on cooperative principles. From a small group of six specialist agencies it has grown into a national retail network boasting talented and professional members in every state and territory. Each outlet is independently owned, operated and branded however, they use the buying power of the network to ensure they are competitive with the more high profile players.
Travellers Choice Chief Executive Christian Hunter says the award recognises the national retail travel group’s unique and consultative culture and its unrivalled focus on supporting its members.
“This is a David versus Goliath win and a timely reminder that being a great retail travel group is not about size, it’s about service,” Hunter said. “Travellers Choice has never lost sight of the fact that our members are our most important customers. That is why we are continually developing and enhancing support services, and why we work so closely with our members and industry partners to refine our business goals.”
Ucango Travel & Cruise Managing Director, Dave Hulsman, who joined the network in 2007, said it was fantastic for Travellers Choice to get some of the public recognition it deserves.
“Obviously, we’ve known within the industry how great a network Travellers Choice is, however it was good to get that national recognition last week,” he said. “Travellers Choice is unique in that they allow us to run our own show and cater our brand for the local market, however they’re there to offer any administrative, back office, training and even marketing support whenever we need it.
“It has been fantastic to see how the network has grown over the years and evolved in helping us create brands that have evolved with travelling trends, in particular a strong focus on cruising and luxury touring in the past few years.”
Ucango Travel & Cruise is highly regarded within the network as a former finalist in the network’s top accolade (The Brian Pateman Award ) on top of national sales awards for P&O, Princess, Cosmos/Globus, Avalon Waterways, Holland America Line, Seabourn, Royal Caribbean International, APT, Adventure World and Allianz.
