The race between Qantas and Virgin Australia to offer inflight wi-fi is heating up.
Virgin Australia will begin a three month trial on one Boeing 737 aircraft in April, and plans to roll out inflight wi-fi to all of its planes following the trial.
Group executive John Thomas said feedback from passengers during the testing will help the airline tailor its internet service.
Qantas has been testing its inflight wi-fi behind the scenes for weeks, and will soon open it up to customers to try, a Qantas spokesman told AAP.
The airline had planned to show off its inflight wi-fi to media and customers earlier this week, but called off the event due to "some stability issues" that needed fixing.
"Our wi-fi solution uses next-generation technology, so we'll continue fine tuning on a single aircraft ahead of rolling out free and fast wi-fi to about 80 aircraft in our domestic fleet from mid-2017," the Qantas spokesman said.
